[edit] Combo type

There are two types of triggers which can be assigned to a combo as its combo type. These are trigger temp (temporary), and trigger perm (permanent).

Both of these combos are like floor buttons: they will trigger the screen's secrets when walked over. If Trigger temp was used to trigger the secret, then the secret will reset the next time you leave and re-enter that screen. Trigger perm, of course, induces a permanent change.

[edit] Trigger as a term

Naturally, ZC contains dozens of different ways to trigger a room's "secret." There are also placed flags, screen flags, and other means by which the player may "trigger" secrets. Therefore, don't necessarily expect the word to be used with specific regards to the two "trigger" combo types.

Some triggers have permanent effects; others are temporary. However, ZC can only keep track of one permanent change per screen: if you activate two permanent triggers on the same screen, they will both have their respective effects, but only the first one will remain permanently.

Dungeon -type Dmaps tend to affect many trigger actions by making permanent effects act as temporary ones. Not all normally-permanent effects are changed by using a Dungeon-type Dmap, but many are.
