Triforce

The Triforce (also known as the Golden Power) are three sacred triangles representing the goddeses Din, Nayru, and Farore. The Triforce consists of Wisdom, Power, and Courage. There is a prophecy that states that when an evil heart possess the Triforce, they will only get the piece that represents them, and the other pieces will go to their respective owners. This will bring chaos and darkness to Hyrule. If a person with a good heart, and sacred mind touches the Triforce, they will turn Hyrule into a golden land. In Zelda 1, Link gains the Triforce of Courage, Ganon the Triforce of Power, and Zelda the Triforce of Wisdom.

In Zelda quests, the Triforce is usually the main objective. There are 8 pieces of it, and they are most likely going to be scattered throughout the dungeons. In The Legend of Zelda, the player, Link, needed to obtain 8 pieces in order to get into Ganon's lair and beat the game.
