The monetary unit in The Legend of Zelda. You use them to buy items in shops, and they double as your arrow count. (unless the quest rule, "True Arrows" is set) Link's wallets enable him to carry more, with the starting wallet allowing 255, the second wallet allowing 500, and the final wallet allowing 999. Of course, those values can be changed with the item editor and Link data.

Enemies and bushes drop rupees, the most common source of them. They can also be found by gambling or by finding them hidden in areas.

They are found in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200. Their colors vary with the tileset that the quest creator is using. 10 rupee denominations were introduced in Version 2.50 and are only dropped by enemies if the quest rule, "allow 10-rupee drops," is active.
